I love writing. This love affair started at the age of 8 and has grown with an intensity and joie de vivre as I have progressed through life. Like all relationships, it has ebbed and flowed at different times depending on what my focus in life has been, but it has always been there. Faced with a blank “page” on a screen or a piece of paper, I am compelled to fill it with words.
I love words. I love the way they flow together and create images to help us communicate with each other. Whether I am writing a sales letter for some fancy new widget, writing a short story that popped into my head while I was gardening or writing lyrics to a song, the way words combine to relate an idea has always fascinated me.
My writing life started when an artist in residence in my grade school was teaching us poetry and asked us to write an ode to something we loved. So I wrote an ode to my cat.
Years later, I encountered that poet. He remembered me, and my ode. He told me that after reading that poem, he felt that I had more writing talent in my little pinky than he had in his entire body. I was stunned, flattered and flabbergasted. This man (now recently deceased) was one of the most respected and well-known writers in my community.
So I write. I am a professional copywriter, an “aspiring” author of fiction and non-fiction works, a blogger, a content writer, a poet and lyricist.
